The square will be narrower than the triangle’s base. The total area stays the same.

Arrange the pieces as shown below. Match the colours and the edges; all four pieces fit into one square.
Place the blue piece at the lower left and the yellow piece at the lower right. Complete the upper left with orange and the upper right with teal. Rotate each piece to match the picture.
Now try making the triangle again without looking at the starting picture.
