How to Study Throughout the Year So You Don’t Panic Before Exams
The best way to avoid exam panic is not to study harder for three days. It is to study a little more consistently throughout the year.
Review what was taught the same day
A short review while the lesson is fresh can make later revision much easier.
Understand first, memorise second
Ask what the idea means, when it is used and how it appears in a question.
Make short notes
Keep formulas, definitions, diagrams, dates, difficult words and common mistakes in compact revision notes.
Keep a doubt list
Write down unclear points and ask for help before small gaps become exam-time problems.
Practise without looking
Close the book and solve, explain, draw or recall. Recognition is not the same as recall.
Use a weekly revision day
Bring back both recent and older topics so earlier chapters do not disappear from memory.
Correct mistakes
Keep a small mistake notebook showing what went wrong and what the correct approach should have been.
Use smaller sessions
Focused 30–50 minute sessions can be more useful than sitting beside a book for hours without attention.
Ask for help early
There is no prize for remaining confused alone.
Keep time for play and rest
A sustainable routine includes sleep, movement, family and hobbies as well as study.
Study should produce understanding, not just hours.
