How to Keep Calm During Exams: Practical Ways to Reduce Exam Stress
Feeling nervous before an important exam does not necessarily mean you are unprepared. The problem begins when nervousness prevents clear thinking.
Prepare before the panic starts
Divide the syllabus into completed, partly completed and not-started topics. A visible list turns “everything is left” into specific work.
Do not try to learn everything at the last minute
Use final hours mainly for revision, formulas, definitions, difficult points and short practice.
Sleep
A rested student can often use what they know better than an exhausted student who studied all night.
Avoid comparison
Just before an exam, another student’s preparation level is rarely useful information for you.
Take slow breaths
Slow down and remind yourself: “I only need to handle one question at a time.”
Read before you panic
One difficult question does not make the whole paper impossible.
If your mind goes blank
Pause, reread the question, identify key words, write any related idea you remember and move on if necessary.
Do not let one mistake destroy the paper
Protect the marks that are still available.
Parents can reduce or increase exam stress
Questions such as “Which chapter needs help?” are usually more constructive than comparison and fear-based pressure.
Preparation creates confidence. Read. Think. Breathe. Begin.
